WHO WE ARE
Keep the Ocean Clean Initiative, also known as KOCI, is an NGO dedicated to raising awareness about the protection and conservation of our oceans.
Our mission encompasses promoting ocean literacy, advocating for marine conservation, and addressing ocean pollution.
Through education and community engagement, we strive to foster a deeper understanding of the vital role our oceans play and the importance of preserving them for future generations.

Our vision is to fabricate a society that is well educated in Ocean affairs through proper engagements as well as education with a view to making the ocean clean and safe.

Our mission is to act as a pivot in enlightening, educating, promoting and delivering Ocean Literacy across the society by working with teachers, policymakers, scientists, government and the public.
OUR OBJECTIVES
To get rid of dirt and plastics from our waterways and oceans
Our initiative focuses on the removal of dirt and plastics from waterways and oceans to restore and preserve aquatic ecosystems. By implementing effective cleanup strategies and promoting sustainable practices, we aim to enhance water quality, protect marine life, and foster a healthier environment for future generations.
To create awareness on the dangers of ocean pollution and its adverse effect on marine life.
Our campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of ocean pollution and its detrimental effects on marine life. Through education and outreach, we aim to inform the public about the critical challenges faced by our oceans, fostering responsibility and encouraging proactive efforts to protect marine ecosystems for a sustainable future.

By fostering collaborative opportunities, providing resources, and supporting educational initiatives, we aim to inspire a new generation of scientists and advocates dedicated to advancing our understanding of marine environments and addressing the challenges they face.
ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
Keep The Ocean Clean Initiative was founded out of the zeal to promote ocean literacy among the people of Nigeria as well as the West Atlantic region.
Additionally, the organization was founded to promote and advocate for a safe and clean ocean towards preservation and conservation of marine lives.
It is aimed that the organization will help achieve the United Nation’s Ocean Decade agenda as well the Ocean Literacy project of the UNESCO.
The organization is founded and run by the Chairman Mr. Uzoeshi Ekechukwu, the Secretary Mr. Onyegbuchulam Samuel, and other executive board members – Mr. Agube Stanlislus Chisimdi, Dr Onwubiko Chinomnso Chinazum and Mr. Williamson Ekemini.
The group members have a vast knowledge of the oceans as well as being great researchers
EDUCATE, CLEANSE AND CONSERVE
OCEAN LITERACY
The understanding of the ocean’s influence on people and of people’s influence on the ocean. It is essential for fostering a connection between individuals and marine environments, leading to informed decisions about ocean conservation and sustainable practices.
MARINE POLLUTION
The consequences of marine pollution are profound, leading to habitat degradation, loss of biodiversity, and widespread ecological changes, while also threatening livelihoods that depend on healthy marine ecosystems. Addressing marine pollution requires global cooperation, effective policies, and increased public awareness to promote sustainable practices and protect ocean health.
CONSERVATION OF
MARINE LIFE
Conserving marine life is vital not only for maintaining biodiversity but also for ensuring the health of the planet and the well-being of future generations.
Mr. Uzoeshi Ekechukwu Chikezie was born on the 8th of June 1989 in Owerri, Imo State. He holds a bachelor of science degree in Geophysics from the university of Port Harcourt and a post graduate degree certification in Ocean mapping from the university of New Hampshire USA. He is a certified CAT A hydrographic surveyor with vast experience in ocean surveys. He is an advocate of clean and safe ocean and an ocean literacy enthusiast.
Mr. Uzoeshi Ekechukwu Chikezie
The ChairmanMr. Onyegbuchulam Samuel Chinedum was born on the 29th of June, 1997 in Apapa Lagos state. He holds a B.Eng. in Electrical / Electronic Engineering from Imo State University Owerri. As the Secretary of the organization, he plays a pivotal role in coordinating activities, managing outreach programs, and promoting ocean literacy and cleanliness. He combines youthful energy with a commitment to making a tangible difference in the fight against marine pollution, also bringing technical expertise and a passion for environmental conservation to the Keep the Ocean Clean Initiative.
